Team-building events are nothing new at Central Junior High. Faculty and staff kicked off the school year with the annual CJH watermelon seed spitting contest. The special event fosters friendly competition among the teacher teams and provides camaraderie for the new staff members. The watermelons used in the contest weigh over 25 pounds and were grown by Principal Randy Belcher at his family's farm. Several varieties of watermelons were available to contestants and onlookers alike. After sampling slices of melon, teachers and staff practiced their seed spitting techniques. This year's contest featured contestant teams that had to relay race across the parking lot, while spitting watermelon seeds. Each member from the winning team took home a giant watermelon. This year's victors hailed from the Science Department: Matt Simmons, Ben Herman, Falysha Williams, and Kathryn Parker. Congratulations!
